The Armory Show 2014
March 5 - March 9, 2014
For P.P.O.W’s second consecutive year at The Armory Show, the gallery will preview new works by Dinh Q. Le, Hunter Reynolds,Timothy Horn and Ben Gocker, alongside historic works by Martin Wong and David Wojnarowicz. Among the works on view will be two pieces that will subsequently be featured in solo exhibitions at the gallery – a new weaving by Vietnamese artist Dinh Q. Le, who recently exhibited at the Carnegie International, and a poetic construction by Ben Gocker. In addition, the gallery will premiere two new major sculptures by Timothy Horn that feature hand blown glass pearls on bronze armatures inspired by antique 16th century jewels. The inspiration for these opulent works came from a visit to the Pitti Palace, where Horn noted, “I stood there looking at the sexy shape, and realized that it could be so easily appropriated into a discussion of late 20th-century gay culture, all rippling muscles and perfect hair and perpetual youth.” P.P.O.W will also show a work from Martin Wong’s Chinatown series featuring Bruce Lee, and a 1983 mural by Wojnarowicz, which has not been seen since the 1980’s when it was first exhibited at the Gracie Mansion Gallery.
